Admission Requirements

OVERVIEW

Selecting the right school for your child is a crucial and often challenging decision. We understand how important it is to get this right because a happy school environment allows children to thrive and reach their full potential. The right school helps build the foundation for a child’s future success, and we want to ensure you have all the information you need as you embark on this journey. St. Mathias Tsonzo offers a continuous admissions process. What do we look for in prospective students? Beyond academic achievements, we value enthusiasm, integrity, dedication, and a sense of responsibility toward others and the environment. We seek students who will positively contribute to our community. Our primary intake points are Form 1 and Lower Sixth, with most new students joining at the start of the academic year. However, we are flexible and able to consider admissions at other times of the year if space permits. Many students transition from our junior school, alongside those joining from other institutions. All new students are warmly welcomed and quickly become part of the St. Mathias Tsonzo family.

Procedure

For all entrance stages other than Lower 6, an assessment/examination is written prior to acceptance.

Admission to Form 1

An Entrance Assessment Day with papers assessing English and Mathematics is held at St Mathias Tsonzo on the first Saturday of July for pupils in Grade 7 (Year 8) for pre-registered pupils only. An Orientation Day is held before the beginning of the first term of Form 1 for all successful parents and pupils.

Forms 1 (Second Term onwards), 2 and 3

Applicants write the relevant internal examination with their prospective peers. These examinations take place towards the end of each Term or the beginning of the holidays for admission into the following Term and successful applicants are interviewed prior to the offer of a place.

Lower 6

Applicants must send in their IGCSE/O Level or equivalent examination results immediately on receipt from the examination board. A pass in 5 subjects at IGCSE or Ordinary Level is a prerequisite for admission into Lower 6. All candidates must have a C grade or above in English as a First Language, Mathematics, and a Science subject. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed and, if eligible, a place offered.
